National Vocational Qualifications
NVQs are work-related, competence based qualifications. NVQs reflect the skills and knowledge
needed to do a job effectively. NVQs represent national standards recognised by employers throughout
the country and internationally.
NVQs can be assessed at your own workplace, and do not necessarily
need any additional training or education if you are already competent
in work areas to be assessed. Relevant training can, of course, be
provided as part of an overall programme where it is needed.
By using our web based e-portfolio, the building of the portfolio becomes
much more cost effective, and the assessment process more efficient.
Pragmatic Training Services Ltd offers NVQs in Occupational Health And Safety At Work, at levels
3 and 4.
The Occupational HASAW NVQ as offered by PTS is a very practical way for employees, supoervisors
and managers to achieve a recognised HASAW qualification with minimum disruption to their daily
work routine.
Level 3 is equivalent to ‘A’ levels. Regarded as a higher level of qualification that the NEBOSH Certificate.
Level 4 is equivalent to a first degree, and currently enables ‘Grad’ Membership of IOSH, subject to
acceptable senior level HASAW management experience.
The process to achieve either level of NVQ is similar, with the level four requiring a more senior level of work,
and a greater commitment of time to achieve. We normally complete either level with your staff within a
time-scale of 4 to 6 months.
Initially, we would visit the employee for a half day to commence the assessment plan. During this visit we
would help begin to identify the ‘evidence’ the candidate would need to place in a portfolio to illustrate
competence at the relevant level for the NVQ.
Following the planning session, we visit on a number of occasions to observe the candidate at work on
HASAW matters, and to discuss HASAW to assess his / her competence in each of the units of the NVQ.
For the level 3 this would normally be 3 - 4 visits, for the level 4 5 - 6 visits.
PTS can also provide training organisations with assessors and Iv’s for HASAW,
Customer Service and Managent NVQs
